The risks associated with Gastric Bands are well known and include the following:

Gastric band surgery for use in weight reduction for severely obese patients with a body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 40 or a BMI of at least 35 with one or more severe co-morbid conditions, or those who are 45 kilos. or more over their estimated ideal weight.

Band slippage, erosion and deflation, obstruction of the stomach, dilation of the oesophagus, infection, or nausea and vomiting may occur, and these risk should be considered before undertaking this kind of surgery.

Furthermore Rapid weight loss may result in complications that can require additional surgery. Deflation of the band may alleviate excessively rapid weight loss or oesophageal dilation, but once again these risks should be discussed thoroughly with your surgeon beforehand.

ENGLEWOOD -- More than 5,000 underprivileged people over the last two decades have received the gift of better sight through the Venice/Englewood Lions Vision Screening and Treatment Program's Alfred G. and Ingeborg Keerl Trust.

The trust is maintained by the Venice and Englewood Lions clubs to help financially challenged families with eye care.

"I think that's wonderful," said Larry Beers, coordinator of the Englewood Lions Club eye care program. "There are a lot of people who can't afford eye care. The (criteria) levels are set a little higher, because there are people who work who can't afford glasses."

November 2006 marks the 19th anniversary of the Venice/Englewood Lions Vision Screening and Treatment Program. The program serves the residents of Venice, Nokomis and Englewood who might otherwise not be able to afford proper eye care.

"There's no cost to the patient. It's a real good program," Beers said. "We really want to get the word out. We want to help everybody that needs help. That's what the Lions is all about, eye care."

According to the Lions Vision Web site, the program started in 1987. At that time, the Keerls bequeathed a large amount of money in the care of the Lions.

In 1994, the Venice/Englewood Lions Clubs Vision Center was established at the Bon Secours-Venice Health Park.

The number of patients who use the monthly services frequently exceeds 40.

Beers said the interest alone from the Keerl's trust helps to pay for complete eye care for anyone who qualifies from the El Jobean bridge north up to Blackburn Point Road in Nokomis.

It just takes a call to 941-492-3931 for a preliminary phone interview. Then an appointment is made and any necessary eye care is covered, no matter what age.

"If they're in a low-income bracket, the Keerl will (even) pay for eye surgery, if necessary," Beers said. "We do it all for all ages."

Beers said the program is based on a sliding scale.

Local doctors do a screening, and if further testing is needed, clients go to an optometrist.

"They're no-frills glasses, no special tinting," Beers said. "It's done once a month, first Thursday of the month, eye appointments only."

Beers said a grant has been set aside for the Lions and will be used to establish a similar new program for hearing-impaired persons. More information will be provided.

People who qualify and need help with vision problems can contact the Venice Lions at 941-492-3931 or visit the Venice/Englewood Vision Center at the Venice Regional Medical Center Health Park situated at the junction of Jacaranda Boulevard and Center Road in Venice. Office volunteers are available to take applications and schedule an appointment at the next clinic, if requirements are met.

As this is the first newsletter, and as we here at
Traffic-supercharger are not journalists we intend to apply the
old Maxim...KISS...Keep It Simple Simon....

Firstly let me explain how we came to be here and produced this amazing piece of Kit. I am by Profession an Optician
but have always been interested in computers, and over the years have
managed to keep abreast with the ins and outs of computers since
the very First Sinclair 1K was launched on the World. Now for those
of you who dont remember those things it was basic....what can you do with 1K,
well, I MANAGED TO GET A LITTLE DOT TO BOUNCE FROM ONE SIDE OF MY tv
SCREEN TO THE OTHER, WOW.. that was a real buzz...and here we are today
where I can get 3D virtual Images to go across computer screens
all over the World, all at the different times, and all controlled from
little office in Manchester UK.

As we are Opticians our First website was produced many years ago by my Son
Antony, who is an Optometrist, for use in our Practice and we were to my
Knowledge the first Opticians Practice on the internet EVER...needless to
say we were at the top every search engine in the world..we were even there
before google.....

But things change in this world and as Google and Yahoo etc get more and more
powerfull they virtually control what you see now on your computers over the
internet. now here is my little dig....who gave them the right to take over
the XXXX World, but like it or not they done exactly that...what do you think?

So to cut a very long story short we find ourselves here today trying to beat
google and all the other search engines and get good listings for our sites. I
have many times achieved no1 postion on google only to be knocked down by someone
else who knew better than me how to play the system. So I watched and Learned.
Then one day i found a program called Traffic hurricane which was originally put
together by the now famous Jerremy Burns. I used this software on most of my sites
for over a year and achied some amazing results getting to the first page in
many hotly contested slots.....Then late last year I was offered the oppotunity
to buy the source code....well I Jumped on it.

Now here we are, about six months latter with the New Traffic-Supercharger. I
took it pieces and rejigged a few of the applications and debugged the source
code and generally tidied it all up to make it more reliable, and hopefully
more search engine friendly than many other similar systems that are available.

I hope you all like the result of our work and enjoy using the Traffic-
Supercharger. It is an amazing piece of software and will do everything we
promise just as long as you follow basic rules of internet search engine
protocol and the comprehensive help files found within the Application
itself, they are there to help you and have been built up from our own
Knowledge of what does and does not work....

So we move On. in future issues we will be including new tips and tricks
discovered by our own research, and that of other Traffic-supercharger
users who will hopefully decide to share their experiences with us here.

We have been very busy putting finishing touches to our autoresponders
and messages that you recieve, so please excuse the few spelling and gramatical
errors you may find, and also a few of the blank e mails you may have had.
We are working on it ...Ok....it all takes time.....We are also finalising a
deal for those who have found our program but who for one reason or another

The main recurring problem seems to be that many would be users dont have web
hosting space on which to install the software. We are working on this as I type
and should be up and running within the next few days with a system whereby you

working for a reasonable cost. we are currently looking at the posibilty of being
able to do this for around $30 to $40 plus a monthly hosting fee of $9.95 for the Free

Political correctness will soon keep doctors from doing their jobs. We are supposed to at least try to get you to do the best thing for your health.

This lady asked the medical board to investigate the doctor because of the way he expressed his concern over her obesity. Sounds like an overly sensitive patient to me. Sure, I have seen insensitive doctors with patient issues. I have also seen patients take things out of context to make trouble. I used to see this a fair amount as a general surgeon at the university. Then I stopped doing general surgery.

If you don't like your doctor, get another one.

I'd love to know what the medical board expected the attorney general to do. Are they going to arrest the guy for doing his job?

The article admits that the doctor helped the patient lose 150 pounds. Maybe he should be more callous as it seems to be working.

How Medical Malpractice Rates Are Really Your Problem

John Wagner wrote a piece in the Washington Post Friday about the medical malpractice crisis. Many of the usual arguments were raised. Medical malpractice rates have gone up for two consequative years by 28 and 33 percent in Maryland. Increases in other states have been smaller.

When a single company doubles its malpractice awards for a given year (2003), they need to refund the corpus of their accounts to pay for additional awards. They do this by increasing rates to the physicians under the plan.

There has been some legislation bandied about such as decreases in pain and suffering awards. The trial lawyers are fuming. They want their multiple million dollar per case fees to keep coming in. They say they are protecting their clients. Then agree to take less of the money. They can never seem to do that.

Here's how the whole mess affects the consumer:

When overhead becomes unaffordable (including malpractice premiums), doctors limit their low paying insurance business. I have dumped all my HMOS. If you are an HMO patient, you can only see me as an emergency in the local emergency room (that is if you want your insurance to pay any of the bill). I have also dumped provider status for all the PPOs. This means patients pay more out of their own pockets to see me. Seeing as I am one of the few plastic surgeons doing any insurance business in my local area, this is more of a problem for the consumer than it is for me. I simply got tired of losing money.

Possibly worse is that patients with difficult problems with which liability is associated have a harder time finding doctors to care for them. Doctors start looking at some patients as potential sources of additional liability and rid themselves of such patients. Doctors in my local area "fire" patients when they refuse to follow recommendations mainly to limit their liability in caring for them. You didn't see this happening as frequently in years gone by.

Even worse is the case in which doctors find "the grass is greener" in another state. Then they pick up and leave. Our local hospital is about to lose it's third general surgeon in three years. This one has been in practice in the area for over ten years. He is moving to Texas. He will see increased revenue and a better lifestyle from the day he arrives. The So Cal weather he might miss.

It is a very big issue when you need health care. You are going to see less care and pay more for it out of your own pocket unless something substantial is done.

I have been looked at by some of my colleagues as a bit of an ingrate at times. Cosmetic surgery puts food on all our tables and I on occasion have the nerve to toss a bit of dust on that shining plate. Well lovely Elisa has again e-mailed me to tell of another cosmetic surgery oddity.

He is named Steve Erhardt. By report he has had some 30 cosmetic operations. While I believe he should have the right to do that which he wants with his body, I am always somewhat dumbfounded when I consider the motivation in such an undertaking.

The vast majority of my cosmetic patients have one or two operations (with the exception of the gastric bypass patients that have several usually) and then are pretty much done. If a patient were to come in requesting numerous operations I would more likely than not be scared to operate upon him or her. The main question when I agree to operate is:

"Can I make this person happy?"

With Mr Erhardt, I don't know if I could answer "Yes."

As usual government, this time in New York, fails to focus on the problem. Instead they plan to just pass the bill. In Long Island, legislation to force large retailers to pay for employee health insurance is in the wings.Health insurance costs are a big problem in the United States and the States have been taking a beating. Well, let me tell you doctors and hospitals are taking a beating as well. Emergency room call panels are poorly and under staffed as doctors realize that they can spend all night working to be paid nothing. This does not sit well with high overhead. Essentially that is paying to work.Government should focus on why the problem exists and not put up more legislation to make "big box" retailers fund health insurance companies. These retailers will just respond by sticking it to the consumer. Health insurance is a shell game of sorts anyway. No surgeon I know makes good money with insurance business. The insurance companies make the money here. Why force Walmart to pay for health insurance? The government should not be in the health insurance business in the first place. Government's meddling starting with Medicare has lead to insurers getting richer, and hospitals and doctors having a hard time staying open.Instead government might want to take a look at tort reform to make the cost of care less. Another suggestion would be to allow doctors faced with "no pay" emergencies to do something with this "unrealized gain" like a tax break. An Answer:

Being an exercise nut produces only a small bias here. I have seen the results of cosmetic surgery in patients who exercise regularly and others who do not. Those of the patients that exercise are always better.

Cosmetic surgery does not take away (or substitute for) the benefits of exercise. The results of exercise and cosmetic surgery are usually complimentary.
